Plastic Raygun started somewhere in the mid-nineties as a loose collection of club nights playing host to some of the "big beat" elite. Crowds of 1500 would regularly turn up to see the likes of Bentley Rhythm Ace and Propellerheads play live. Whether the events were large or small they consistently impressed. Following on from their success as promoters and DJ’s they decided that a record label was the next logical step. To announce their arrival they sent 100 toy rayguns to the country's top DJs. After only a couple of 12”s Plastic Raygun were becoming a name to watch due to their releases featuring inspired use of sound such as putting a ZX Spectrum game on vinyl and releasing a track that would dial the Plastic Raygun offices if a phone was held to the speakers.
Since those early days Plastic Raygun has been on a roller coaster. It has achieved a top 20 hit with Jean Jacques Smoothie’s “2People”, successfully fought off all rivals to sign up breakbeat darling Stabilizer and made artists like Phantom Beats, Vandal and Baobinga household names (in breakbeat houses anyway).
Over the last 6 years Plastic Raygun has become a name synonymous with funky ass breaks and party monsters so watch out for the future.
